Stay alert against scammers

Fraud tip graphic

Fraudsters are increasingly targeting the public, businesses and organisations with fraudulent emails, texts, telephone calls and messages related to the coronavirus.

We will never ask for your bank details over the phone. To help protect yourself from becoming a victim of fraud, follow advice from Police Scotland:

  • Never provide any personal data such as your full name, address and date of birth
  • Don’t feel embarrassed – genuine callers expect you to be careful
  • Be vigilant if someone turns up to your home unexpectedly, ask for identification and phone the company to verify their identity
  • Never let people try to persuade you to let them into your home even if they are asking for or offering help. If someone is persistent, ask them to call at another time and arrange for a friend or family member to be with you
  • Be sceptical if you receive an email, text or message about the Coronavirus, and never click on any attachments or links

If you are concerned that you’ve been contacted by a potential scammer, contact Police Scotland by calling 101 or 999 in an emergency.
